We bring you some interesting statistics from Division B at the IRB Under 19 World Championship 2007 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
* Italy were crowned Division B champions after beating Canada 22-3 in the final at Shaw’s Bridge.
* The final standings in Division B are: 1. Italy 2. Canada 3. USA 4. Georgia 5. Tonga 6. Uruguay 7. Zimbabwe 8. Chile 9. Romania 10. Russia 11. Chinese Taipei 12. Cook Islands.
* Italian captain Alberto Chiesa and Bodgan Petreanu, the Romanian number 8, are the leading try scorers in Division B with five, one more than Tongan hooker Lepaola Tauveli.
* A total of 1,050 points have been scored in Division B, down significantly from the 1,340 scored in the 30 matches in last year’s tournament.
* Germán Albanell of Uruguay kicked the only drop goal in Division B in his side’s 30-20 defeat of Chile in the pool stages.
* Twenty-three yellow cards were handed out in Division B with Russian and Romanian players receiving four apiece of these.
* Fifth placed Tonga scored the most tries in Division B with 24 in their five matches, one more than Italy managed on the way to the title. By contrast Russia scored only six tries in finishing 10th.
* A total of 321 replacements were made by the 12 Division B sides.
* Riccardo Bocchino kicked the most conversions in Division B with 14 for Italy, one more than Sione Toke managed for fifth placed Tonga.
* Seventy-six of the 146 tries scored in Division B were successfully converted.
* Tonga are the leading point scorers in Division B with 164, a figure swelled by their 72-6 defeat of the Cook Islands in their second pool match. Italy (155) and Uruguay (126) also passed through the century of point’s barrier.
* A total of 146 tries were scored in the IRB Under 19 World Championship 2007 – down from the 181 times the line was crossed in last year’s tournament in Dubai.
